A BPA official visited the HJ Heavy Industries Busan Yeongdo site, where a transfer crane is being manufactured, conducted a safety inspection, and took a commemorative photo.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) has taken proactive measures ahead of the enforcement of the "Serious Accidents Punishment Act" scheduled for the 27th.
BPA conducted safety inspections at the port cargo handling equipment manufacturing sites.
On the 18th, BPA President Kang Jun-seok and the management team directly visited the Busan Yeongdo site of HJ Heavy Industries, which is manufacturing key port cargo handling equipment, the transfer cranes, to conduct safety inspections.
BPA is currently carrying out a project to manufacture and install 9 container cranes and 46 transfer cranes for cargo handling equipment at the Busan New Port 'CON' phases 2 to 5.
The authority is undertaking this project to localize the cargo handling equipment at Busan Port, which is currently monopolized by foreign-made equipment, to revitalize related industries and enhance domestic technological capabilities.
In preparation for the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, BPA has steadily worked to establish a safety and health management system by obtaining the Safety and Health Management System (KOSHA-MS) certification from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, forming a dedicated safety organization, and strengthening safety and health education.
The Serious Accidents Punishment Act primarily stipulates penalties for business owners and management officials who violate safety and health obligations during the operation of workplaces or public facilities, resulting in serious accidents.
To actively respond to the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, BPA plans to empower the safety and health council to directly identify risk factors from on-site workers and more thoroughly manage the status of the safety and health management system establishment.
Kang Jun-seok, BPA President, stated, “We will prevent possible accidents in advance through field-centered safety management that prioritizes the safety of workers within the port and create a safe working environment.”
Hong Moon-gi, CEO of HJ Heavy Industries, mentioned, “We are making thorough preparations ahead of the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and will prioritize safety not only at the crane manufacturing site but also at other construction sites commissioned by BPA.”
