Free Commuter Bus Service in Namdong Industrial Complex Since 2015
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Namdong-gu, Incheon is helping create jobs in the region through wage and commuter bus support.
The district announced on the 19th that it will continue the project this year to support wages for companies that hire Namdong-gu residents.
Now in its 12th year, this project provides a certain amount of wage support from the district's own budget to small and medium-sized manufacturing companies located in Namdong-gu that hire and retain Namdong-gu residents.
Last year, 116 people were hired as regular workers at Namdong Industrial Complex through this project, and the retention rate until the end of the support period reached 84%.
The support target is companies that newly hire residents registered in Namdong-gu for more than one year as regular employees, providing monthly support ranging from 300,000 to 800,000 KRW depending on the base salary and age for six months.
If hired through the Namdong-gu Job Center employment referral, an additional 200,000 KRW is provided in the final support payment if employment is maintained until the maximum support period.
In addition, since 2015, the district has been operating free commuter buses for workers in the Namdong Industrial Complex. The Namdong Industrial Complex commuter buses operate 78 times a day with 10 buses of 45 seats each, serving an average of about 1,900 workers.
In a satisfaction survey conducted last year, over 93% of companies and workers responded that they were "satisfied," making it an essential means of transportation for workers in the Namdong Industrial Complex.
Lee Kang-ho, Mayor of Namdong-gu, said, "This support system acts as an incentive to increase employment in companies and create jobs for Namdong-gu residents," adding, "We will continue to implement various policies to expand private sector employment and create quality jobs."
