An Online and Offline Festival Combining Quarantine Measures and Celebration... Honored with Awards for 3 Consecutive Years
[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] The ‘Haenam Minam Festival’ held in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, won the Korea Festival Contents Grand Prize hosted by the Korea Festival Contents Association and sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Tourism Organization.
According to Haenam-gun on the 19th, the Korea Festival Contents Grand Prize, now in its 10th year, selects the winning festivals annually through an objective and strict evaluation by a panel of experts from various fields who are thoroughly excluded from any conflicts of interest.
The contest is held to promote Korean local festivals worldwide and to develop the national tourism industry by inviting applications from local governments and festival-related organizations.
In particular, the Haenam Minam Festival has been honored for the third time this year, following the Excellence Award in Festival Program Direction in 2020 and the Grand Prize in the Non-face-to-face Festival category in 2021, recognizing its status as a representative festival blending the charm and taste of Haenam.
Despite concerns over the spread of COVID-19, the Haenam Minam Festival received high praise for successfully operating an offline festival venue with thorough quarantine measures such as advance reservations and entry restrictions, while also conducting various online festival programs to ensure a safe festival.
The 2021 Haenam Minam Festival was held from November 12 to 14 in accordance with the With-Corona phase, and was evaluated as a model case of a safe festival with no confirmed COVID-19 cases related to the festival.
A county official stated, “Despite the difficult conditions due to COVID-19, we held the festival after thorough preparation to support the exhausted public and revitalize the local economy, successfully concluding it as a safe festival. We will seek development plans to further grow the Haenam Minam Festival, including applying for it to be designated as a representative festival of Jeollanam-do, and will also prepare thoroughly to successfully hold this year’s festival.”
Meanwhile, Haenam-gun received the comprehensive grand prize at the 2nd Festival and Tourism Awards hosted by Gwangju Maeil Newspaper in December last year, in recognition of achievements such as the successful hosting of the Haenam Minam Festival.
