43 Religious Figures Honored for Practicing Neighborly Love by Providing Fans and Support to 200 Homeless in Jjokbangchon

What’s the Story Behind Songpa-gu Mayor Park Seong-su Awarding Model Religious Figures for Practicing Neighborly Love?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On December 30 last year, Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa District, awarded commendations to 43 exemplary religious figures, including pastors and sponsors of the Songpa District Christian Association, who actively practiced neighborly love throughout the year at Beuniel Church in Geoyeo 1-dong.

The exemplary religious figures have supported local neighbors in need and welfare organizations by providing living and quarantine supplies, such as supplying fans to 200 homeless people in the jjokbangchon (small room village), and have practiced various acts of sharing and volunteering, including supporting alternative schools.

One awardee said, “Helping neighbors who are struggling due to COVID-19 allowed me to deeply engrave Jesus’ words, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ in my heart. I will continue to serve the local community diligently.”

Mayor Park Seong-su said, “With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the warmth of neighbors and systematic support from local governments are needed more than ever. We will continue to work together with the community to make Songpa, a good place to live, even better.”

Since 2021, Songpa District has installed ‘Care SOS Centers’ in 27 community service centers, providing eight major care services such as meal, health, and various information consultations to residents who need more attention and support in the COVID-19 era.

Additionally, through Songpa’s own education support system, Songpa Smart Education Model (SSEM), the district runs online homeschooling programs to address educational gaps, appoints village instructors, and operates emergency care classrooms, making every effort to eliminate welfare blind spots.
