Candidate Lee Jae-myung's Direct Balanced Development Committee Launches in Gwangju Emphasizing 'AI and Culture Convergence Future City'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The launch ceremony and policy presentation of the Balanced Development Committee directly under Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate (co-chairmen Kim Doo-kwan and Song Gi-do), for the Gwangju Metropolitan City region was held on the 18th at the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party office.


About 50 people attended the launch ceremony, including co-chairmen Kim Doo-kwan and Song Gi-do, and Song Gap-seok, chairman of the Gwangju City Party.


The event proceeded in the order of congratulatory remarks by Song Gap-seok, chairman of the city party, greetings by co-chairmen Kim Doo-kwan and Song Gi-do, followed by proposals of major balanced development policies tailored to the circumstances of Gwangju Metropolitan City.


Additionally, an appointment certificate ceremony for key positions such as co-chairman of the Balanced Development Committee in Gwangju City, chairman of the Regional Development Headquarters in Gwangju City, and vice-chairmen was held together.


At the central launch ceremony of the Balanced Development Committee on January 4, candidate Lee Jae-myung stated, “Balanced development is a core task of the 4th Democratic government closely linked to the future design of the Republic of Korea,” and “The Lee Jae-myung administration will transform Korea from a unipolar to a multipolar system, ensuring that more authority and resources are distributed evenly,” openly advocating the philosophy of balanced development.


As the candidate’s intention to reorganize the nation into super metropolitan areas has been confirmed, the Balanced Development Committee plans to devote more effort to designing the future and vision of each region.


Co-chairman Kim Doo-kwan said, “Gwangju Metropolitan City will realize a future city where advanced technology, ecology, and culture converge through AI Green New Deal, carbon-neutral ecological city creation, and digital convergence cultural arts promotion, contributing to regional balanced development as the center of the Honam mega-city,” and added, “The 4th Democratic government will provide comprehensive support necessary to realize the blueprint of Gwangju Metropolitan City as an Asian cultural capital where advanced technology and culture converge.”


Co-chairman Song Gi-do also announced major policy proposals including the 5-pole 3-special system, east-west railway network connecting mega-cities, revolutionary improvement of the balanced special account, and resolution of imbalance.


The five mega-cities are the Southeast region (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam), Daegu-Gyeongbuk region (Daegu, Gyeongbuk), Central region (Sejong, Daejeon, Chungcheong), Honam region (Gwangju, Jeonnam), and the Capital region, while the three special provinces are Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Saemangeum-Jeonbuk Special Province, and Gangwon Peace Special Province.


Heo Min, chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Committee (professor at Chonnam National University), set the policy direction for regional development of Gwangju Metropolitan City as a future advanced industrial city and an Asian cultural capital.


He also proposed balanced development policies for Gwangju Metropolitan City, including ▲establishing a super metropolitan energy community base in the Honam region ▲designation and fostering of a national renewable energy industrial complex through cooperation with Jeonnam ▲creation of an AI-centered industrial convergence cluster ▲carbon-neutral ecological city creation ▲expansion and creation of an Asian cultural capital centered on digital convergence cultural arts and restoration of the Mahan cultural area ▲creation of a bio-medical innovation industrial complex ▲strengthening public health medical functions.
