[Special Stock] RSO Auto Highlights Track Record of Supplying 500 Units Annually Through Joint Development of Robot-Dedicated Controller with Samsung

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] RS Automation is showing strong performance. With growing expectations for the robotics industry in the new year, the company is attracting attention as a business equipped with world-class research capabilities.

As of 1:35 PM on the 18th, RS Automation was trading at 13,850 KRW, up 8.63% (1,100 KRW) compared to the previous trading day.

RS Automation jointly developed a dedicated robot controller with Samsung Electronics' Production Technology Research Institute. FPDs (LCD, PDP, OLED, etc.), which Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display are focusing on, use large multi-joint robots for logistics within the manufacturing line due to the nature of the products. The controller for precise control of large multi-joint robots used for handling and inter-process logistics transfer in the FPD (Flat Panel Display) process was applied to the index system. Since Samsung Electronics began focusing on the FPD business in 2005, RS Automation has supplied more than 500 robot controllers annually (worth 4.5 to 5 billion KRW) to Samsung Electronics. Development of next-generation robot controllers has also been carried out simultaneously, completing the development of the network-type SRC4 series, a next-generation robot controller for FPD, in June 2011.

Based on product design and manufacturing technologies experienced at global companies, RS Automation provides highly reliable products. Led by core researchers with an average of 14 years of development experience, the company possesses capabilities that general small and medium enterprises cannot imitate, based on design skills and production technology accumulated at Samsung Electronics and top design capabilities and processes from Rockwell Automation. The supply record of approximately 410,000 units from 2002 to February 2017 proves this.

In the robot motion control business sector, RS Automation offers optimized functions for mass production process equipment such as semiconductors, displays, mobile phones, solar power, and secondary batteries, based on technologies including real-time high-speed motion network functions and multi-axis control functions for over 100 axes. Although some specialized companies have products supporting multi-axis control functions for over 100 axes, these are single products rather than total solution concepts like RS Automation’s. Their application fields are also very limited.

RS Automation was selected as an Excellent Technology Research Center (ATC) by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The research institute is designated as an Excellent Technology Research Center by the Ministry and is conducting various projects, focusing on commercialization. As a result of this research and development, a 22-bit high-resolution encoder was developed.

On the same day, a media outlet reported that Samsung Electronics recently registered the trademark for its robot brand ‘Samsung Bot (SAMSUNG BOT)’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (USIPO·CIPO).
