CU Targets 'Holiday Thumb Users'... 'Pocket CU' Mobile Lunar New Year Gift Sales CU is introducing a total of over 60 popular Lunar New Year gift sets, including meat, seafood, and home appliances, on its membership app 'Pocket CU' to align with the non-face-to-face gift trend. A model is presenting the sale details of the Pocket CU Lunar New Year gift sets.


[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] CU announced on the 18th that it will showcase a total of over 60 popular Lunar New Year gift sets, including meat, seafood, and home appliances, on its membership application (app) 'Pocket CU' in line with the growing non-face-to-face gift trend due to COVID-19.


The Pocket CU Lunar New Year gift special exhibition targets customer demand to prepare Lunar New Year gifts easily and conveniently through online shopping instead of offline due to strengthened social distancing measures. The meat selection ranges widely in price from practical products like Korean beef bulgogi to premium products such as the Two-Plus Korean Beef Grill Set, while the seafood selection consists of regional specialties like Jeju Okdom, Nohwado live abalone, and Yeoseodo stone seaweed.


Under the concept of gifts for oneself, two types of Apple iPods, Philips wireless earphones, and Terraworks turntables are also prepared. For CU membership VIP customers, 30 units of the Cosyma massage chair, which sold out last year, will be sold online at the lowest price.


For the recently increased 'home cafe tribe' due to social distancing, Delonghi fully automatic espresso machines, kettles, toasters, and electric ovens have been prepared. For the 'home gardening tribe,' home plant cultivators, and for the 'pet fam tribe,' pet houses and pet shower dry rooms are also offered as Lunar New Year gifts.


A time sale is held every day at 11 a.m., selling popular products at up to 70% off. Each product is sold on a first-come, first-served basis with limited quantities, and products such as Nonghyup sirloin Korean beef sets, fresh fruits, and nutritional supplements will be revealed sequentially.


Pocket CU Lunar New Year gift set products will be sold in the 'Lunar New Year Delivery' category under the Pocket CU reservation purchase tab until the 31st and will be delivered free of charge to the address specified by the customer.


Through Pocket CU, CU is expanding the convenience store domain online by offering unique products such as luxury goods, electronics, and differentiated wines that cannot be found in offline stores. The number of products sold through Pocket CU last year reached about 500. Accordingly, the sales growth rate of products sold through Pocket CU compared to the previous year has also continued a steep growth trend, with 199.7% in 2020 and 388.6% in 2021. When customers enter a recommended store while purchasing products through Pocket CU, additional revenue is generated for the franchise store.


BGF Retail's e-commerce team leader, Seonghae Jo, said, "CU is strengthening its online commerce competitiveness by offering differentiated products through Pocket CU in response to the increasing demand for non-face-to-face purchases," adding, "CU will continue to strive to offer various products considering trends and customer needs at reasonable prices."
