[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] The National Petition Service received a report that two dogs were tied and dragged behind a truck running on a major road in downtown Gwangju, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 17th, the Gwangju Northern Police Station announced that on the 15th at 12:58 PM, a report was filed with the National Petition Service that two dogs were hanging and being dragged behind a truck on an 8-lane road in Munheung-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju.
The truck changed lanes and gradually accelerated as the traffic light turned green, but the dogs hanging behind could not keep up with the speed and sometimes fell. Other dogs were also inside the truck.

A video taken by a driver who witnessed the incident was also posted on an online community that day. The video shows the truck accelerating to change lanes, and the two dogs hanging behind struggling to keep up, falling or being dragged along.
The police are investigating by reviewing nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to understand the situation and identify the driver.
While some of the dogs loaded on the truck may have fallen out, if it is confirmed that the dogs were intentionally tied and dragged, the police plan to apply animal cruelty charges under the Animal Protection Act.
According to Article 46 of the current Animal Protection Act, causing the death of an animal through abuse can result in up to 3 years of imprisonment or a fine of up to 30 million won, and causing physical pain or injury to an animal can result in up to 2 years of imprisonment or a fine of up to 20 million won.
