Garak Market Vegetable Category Auction Open Until Evening of January 29


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Garak-dong Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market (hereinafter ‘Garak Market’) and others will close for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2022.


According to the Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo), among the fruit and vegetable categories at Garak Market, the vegetable category will hold auctions until the evening of the 29th and will reopen from the evening of February 3rd.


The fruit category closed after the morning auction on the 30th and will resume auctions at dawn on February 4th.


Among the seafood categories at Garak Market, the fresh fish and shellfish categories closed after the morning auction on the 31st and will resume from the evening auction on February 3rd. The dried seafood category held auctions until the morning of the 29th and will resume from the dawn auction on February 4th.


At Gangseo Agricultural Products Wholesale Market (hereinafter ‘Gangseo Market’), the vegetable category of the auction system closed after the evening auction on the 29th and will resume from the evening auction on February 3rd. The fruit category closed after the morning auction on the 30th and will resume from the dawn auction on February 4th. For the market wholesaler system, transactions will be conducted until 6 p.m. on the 30th and will resume from 6 p.m. on February 2nd. Additionally, the grain wholesale market will conduct transactions until 6 p.m. on the 29th and will resume from 7 a.m. on February 3rd.


Lee Nise, Head of Distribution Headquarters, stated, “To prevent the spread of COVID-19 at Garak Market, the closure period was set to four consecutive days (one Sunday and three days for Lunar New Year holidays). We will do our best to stabilize the supply and demand of agricultural and marine products by thoroughly preventing the spread of COVID-19 before and after the Lunar New Year holiday.”


Garak Market Vegetable Category Auction Open Until Evening of January 29


The Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo) held a ‘Safety and Health Council’ (hereinafter ‘Council’) on the 13th to ensure safety at the corporation’s workplaces.


The ‘Council’ is an organization formed jointly by the corporation and its subsidiaries to ensure workplace safety, supporting activities such as workplace inspections and safety and health education. At this meeting, they discussed the 2022 basic safety and health plan, measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within workplaces, analysis of causes of industrial accidents and countermeasure development, and key points in preparation for the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.


Im Chang-soo, Head of Construction Safety Headquarters, stated, “As the Serious Accidents Punishment Act will be enforced on January 27, active efforts to prevent safety accidents are necessary. We will do our best to prevent recurrence through thorough cause analysis and countermeasure development when industrial accidents occur among workers.”


Lim Young-gyu, President of Seoul Agricultural and Marine Products Market Management, said, “Regarding the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, I hope to build a wholesale market free of safety accidents through continuous preventive activities and risk factor identification, and ongoing communication between the corporation and its subsidiaries.”


After the ‘Council’ meeting, a joint safety and health field inspection was conducted to preemptively check hazardous and dangerous factors within contractor workplaces, and departments responsible for workplace environment improvements were requested to establish countermeasures for any deficiencies.
