[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Kim Gun-hee, the spouse of Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, called former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jung "pitiful," prompting Kim Ji-eun, the victim of Ahn's sexual violence case, to demand an apology on the 17th.
In a statement released through the Korea Sexual Violence Counseling Center on the same day, Kim Ji-eun said, "I sincerely demand an apology from Kim Gun-hee," and criticized, "I have seen Kim Gun-hee's attitude of treating even cases confirmed guilty by court rulings with conspiracy theories and sarcasm. I also heard words that easily belittle the 'Me too' movement, which contains the victims' cries."
She continued, "Apologize. The thoughtless words you uttered have ultimately become seeds of secondary harm, and I am still suffering from malicious comments," adding, "I have now clearly realized that secondary perpetrators exist not only in the Blue House and the ruling party candidate's camp but also in the opposition camp."
Furthermore, she emphasized, "I do not expect you to change the world. But please do not become obstacles to efforts for change," and stated, "I will fight to the end against you who, with your limited power, divide, manipulate, and mock the people."
This is related to the content of Kim Gun-hee's '7-hour phone call transcript' broadcasted on MBC's 'Straight.' 'Straight' reported on the 16th the phone conversation between Kim Gun-hee and a reporter from the YouTube channel 'Seoul's Voice.'
During the call, Kim Gun-hee said about the progressive camp's 'Me too' issue, "The reason Me too incidents break out is because they don't get paid, isn't it?"
She said, "Conservatives definitely take care of them. They don't exploit people for free or anything like that. That's why Me too incidents rarely happen here," adding, "Conservatives pay; they should never do it like the progressive camp. Otherwise, they get into trouble later. It's fine now, but you never know when your life will go well."
Kim Gun-hee also said, "The Me too movement was first triggered during the Moon Jae-in administration, and they said to catch them. Why catch them? Life is too bleak," and added, "Honestly, I feel sorry for Ahn Hee-jung. My husband (Yoon Seok-yeol) and I are very much on Ahn Hee-jung's side."
Regarding this, Kim Gun-hee apologized for her remarks related to Me too in a written response sent to 'Straight,' saying, "I feel sorry to the public for the inappropriate remarks made in the process of criticizing some progressive figures involved in sexual exploitation."
Meanwhile, former Governor Ahn was prosecuted on charges of sexual violence including rape by abuse of power and is currently serving a 3 years and 6 months prison sentence confirmed by the Supreme Court in September 2019.
