[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A national petition demanding severe punishment for the perpetrator teacher has been posted, claiming that a 7-year-old son was repeatedly assaulted and abused by a teacher at a daycare center in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province.

On the 17th, a petition titled "My son became disabled due to daycare abuse" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board. This petition has received over 100 preliminary consents and is currently under review by the administrator.

The petitioner, A, who identified herself as the mother of the victim child, opened up, saying, "On May 18, 2021, I felt the daycare was neglecting my son, so I said I would transfer him and checked the initial neglect video. After that, I reported child abuse to 112."

A said, "After reporting child abuse, a two-month video investigation was conducted, and (in the videos) my son was repeatedly assaulted and abused. My son had only attended this daycare for three and a half months," adding, "Although my son is 7 years old, when I consulted with the director, she introduced the '6-year-old teacher as a veteran' and said, 'Let's graduate him from the 6-year-old class,' so I trusted them and sent my son there."

According to the petition, A’s son, who attended the daycare in question, told her every day in April last year, "The teacher tells me to play alone," "She says not to play with friends," and "She says not to look at them." Especially, A’s son suddenly woke up at dawn and said, "Mom. Please call the teacher. Tell her to let me play with my friends. Hold my hand and talk to the teacher."

A said, "I developed facial palsy (Guanwasa) due to mental stress just one month after the child abuse occurred, and my son became severely disabled," adding, "My son was always left in a corner, unable to go near friends, and the homeroom teacher frequently kicked him. They did not properly feed him and brought younger classmates to kick my son. They even ordered them to grab and shake my son’s hair."

She continued, "When my son resisted and injured the teacher’s arm, the homeroom teacher falsely claimed, 'He hit the teacher’s cheek after being told not to hit other kids,' and shockingly tried to portray my son, who was assaulted for 15 minutes, as the perpetrator," expressing her outrage.

A pointed out, "Currently, the director has hired a lawyer and assigned defense attorneys to the homeroom and assistant teachers," adding, "The director claims she was unaware of the abuse but hired a lawyer to defend the assaulting teacher. Her words and actions are completely contradictory."

Furthermore, she urged, "My son became disabled due to child abuse. It is truly heartbreaking. Please help me obtain the child abuse video through an information disclosure request. Also, please impose severe punishment on the perpetrator teachers, including the director."

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 29th of last month that they had arrested teacher B at a daycare center in Yeoju on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act. The daycare center director C and two other teachers, also charged with the same offense, are under investigation without detention.
