[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 17th that it conducted Public Official Election Act training for employees in preparation for the 20th presidential election and the 8th simultaneous nationwide local elections.

The training was intended to prevent unintentional actions that could influence the election during work processes as the 60-day period before the 20th presidential election approaches and the nation's biggest holiday, Seol, draws near, and to firmly establish the political neutrality of public officials.

Considering the COVID-19 situation, the training was conducted non-face-to-face using a PC video conferencing system, allowing employees to participate through their personal PCs used for regular work.

Kim Gwang-bae, Guidance and Public Relations Officer of the Geochang-gun Election Commission, who served as the instructor, provided detailed explanations of the major restrictions and prohibitions under the Public Official Election Act related to the 60-day period before the presidential election and the Seol holiday, supplementing with specific cases to help employees understand the Act.

Gu In-mo, Mayor of Geochang-gun, stated, “Although the restrictions and prohibitions under the Public Official Election Act are complex and difficult depending on the subject, scope, and target, I hope that through this training, employees will thoroughly review and understand the Act in advance to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings or disputes during work.”

Geochang-gun has not only established a Full HD high-definition video conferencing system at the main office, affiliated institutions, business offices, and all towns and townships?the first in Gyeongnam province?but also prepared a system that allows public officials to conduct video conferences through their personal PCs, proactively applying the changing non-face-to-face work environment due to COVID-19 to administration.
