[Asia Economy Reporters Oh Ju-yeon and Jeon Jin-young] Sim Sang-jung, the Justice Party presidential candidate, stated on the 17th, "No matter how exhausting and difficult the path may be, I will not give up until the end," and added, "In this presidential election, I will seek the renewed trust of the people for Sim Sang-jung and the Justice Party."

Candidate Sim held a press conference in the afternoon and said, "So that younger progressive politicians do not feel the despair of starting again from a cliff, and so that the next generation of progressives can confidently move forward standing on the 20 years of progressive politics with Sim Sang-jung, I will fulfill my final duty," expressing this commitment.

After abruptly announcing the suspension of her campaign schedule on the evening of the 12th and remaining in seclusion, Candidate Sim resumed her schedule on this day and emphasized her intention to participate in the presidential election until the end.

Candidate Sim apologized, saying, "I am sorry for causing concern by suddenly stopping the campaign," and added, "The halt was not simply because of polling numbers." She explained, "While campaigning, I realized that the distance between myself and the people the Justice Party should join hands with was vast."

Candidate Sim reflected deeply in silence on the current regrettable situation, saying, "I pondered what exactly went wrong and where change should begin," and diagnosed, "Over the past 20 years of progressive politics, I devoted myself to keeping promises, but as a result, inequality in our society has worsened."

She said, "I took on election system reform with everything I had to gain greater power to improve the lives of the underprivileged, but I was not successful. In the process, the principles of progressivism were greatly shaken," and added, "I will not blame others. I humbly acknowledge my painful misjudgment."

Candidate Sim stated, "I have carefully considered what must be done and what must not be done to establish a new foundation for progressive politics in this presidential election," and said, "From now on, I will not blame others for difficult situations, nor will I be swayed by polling numbers. I will not avoid difficult and challenging tasks." Along with this, she announced that in future presidential elections free from labor, women’s, and climate crises, she will focus on resolving these issues.

Candidate Sim said, "Although we should have debated earlier, important agendas that have been treated as sacred taboos of progressivism will now be discussed." She also emphasized, "I will actively engage in dialogue with those who have different views," and stressed, "I will conduct a presidential election that restores the common values of our society that can be universally empathized with beyond political camps."
