[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Saerom] The Gyeongnam Office of Education and Gyeongsangnam-do will accept applications for the "2022 Gyeongnam Small School Revitalization Project" from the 17th of this month until July 11th.
The Gyeongnam Small School Revitalization Project is a program aimed at promoting mutual development between small schools facing extinction and local villages.
Through collaboration among the Gyeongnam Office of Education, Gyeongsangnam-do, and LH, the project not only supports the construction of rental housing, vacant house maintenance, improvement of residential conditions, and job support but also enhances the school educational environment to operate distinctive curricula.
The application targets are small schools (elementary schools) located in townships within the province and local villages. After the application deadline, on-site inspections and evaluations will be conducted from the 14th to the 25th, and three schools will be selected.
The selected schools and regions will receive a total of 4.5 billion KRW, with 1.5 billion KRW each from the Gyeongnam Office of Education, Gyeongsangnam-do, and city/county governments. The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) will invest in rental housing construction, community space provision, and related incidental project costs.
In the 2021 project sites, Uiryeong-gun - Daeui Elementary School and Hamyang-gun - Yurim Elementary School, LH is currently constructing a total of 20 rental housing units aiming for occupancy by the end of February, along with improvements in residential conditions such as vacant house and school route maintenance.
City and county governments wishing to apply for the project should consult with the respective education office and submit the related documents to the Gyeongnam Integrated Education Promotion Team.
Policy Planning Officer Lee Kyung-gu stated, “We expect stable relocation and settlement support through LH’s continuous participation in the project, and the Gyeongnam Office of Education will spare no effort to support the realization of small schools that attract students through distinctive curriculum operation and spatial innovation.”
