DIY Cosmetics Company 'Unizar' Faces Attention for Low Content of Raw Materials in Ready-Made Products
Manufactures and Sells Small-Packaged Raw Material Powders with Skin Improvement Benefits

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] UNIZAAR is a startup that manufactures and sells ‘customized DIY cosmetics.’ ‘Customized DIY cosmetics’ are cosmetics where raw materials with different effects are mixed into ready-made cosmetics and applied.
Sim Pilbo, CEO of UNIZAAR, said, "The skin condition varies day by day, but people blame their skin while applying the same cosmetics every day," adding, "Depending on which raw materials you choose to apply according to the situation, you can create radiant skin, moist skin, or skin without pimples."
CEO Sim has built a foundation in the cosmetics industry for over 10 years by founding and managing cosmetics-related companies such as Jessica Bling, Gold Diamond, and Miskin. Noticing that the content of raw materials that determine the efficacy of cosmetics is too low, he founded UNIZAAR in March last year and has been researching ways to increase the raw material content in cosmetics.
Niacinamide is one of the representative raw materials in cosmetics. It is a type of vitamin with effects such as improving skin tone, suppressing the occurrence of troubles, and whitening. Whitening cosmetics on the market contain only about 1-2% niacinamide, but they are expensive simply because they have whitening effects.
UNIZAAR manufactures and sells small packages of powders containing raw materials with whitening, anti-aging, and moisturizing effects such as niacinamide, elastin, allantoin, and calamine. They also sell some finished products like toners, creams, tea tree oil, and a customized cosmetics kit called ‘CO KIT.’
CEO Sim explained, "The powders contain 100% raw materials, and finished products like toners and creams contain about 35-45%, which is 20 to 30 times more than ready-made cosmetics," adding, "Although it has only been three months since launch and we are still cautious, the repurchase rate of first-time buyers exceeds 90%."
UNIZAAR has secured thousands of loyal customers and exports to countries such as Russia, Thailand, and Japan. CEO Sim said, "The price of UNIZAAR’s customized cosmetics is about 1,000 KRW per 200 mg packet, much cheaper than mask packs, but the effect is superior," expressing confidence, "We will expand distribution channels and grow into a company with domestic sales exceeding 30 billion KRW within five years."
Establishing local factories in China and Europe is CEO Sim’s goal. He emphasized, "The domestic customized cosmetics market size is around 100 billion KRW and is a blue ocean just beginning, with continuous love calls from overseas," adding, "Customized cosmetics fit the consumption trends of the MZ generation and have infinite growth potential, and a day will come when demand cannot be met without local factories."
