Woojin, SMR, and Others Complete Next-Generation Nuclear Power Plant Component Development Projects

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Woojin has completed development projects for next-generation nuclear power technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and offshore nuclear power plants.

On the 17th, Woojin announced that it had completed all development and manufacturing service projects commissioned by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and Korea Electric Power Technology (KEPCO E&C).

The KAERI projects consisted of two tasks: the production of a position indicator test product for the Korean SMR called ‘Innovative SMART’ and the design of a reactor water level gauge (HJTC) for small offshore nuclear power plants. For KEPCO E&C, Woojin was commissioned to develop a test product for the in-core nuclear instrumentation (ICI) for SMART and has completed providing the test product.

Woojin is a specialized instrumentation company used in various industries such as nuclear power, steel, and semiconductors. It supplies in-core nuclear instrumentation (ICI) for nuclear power plants, automation equipment for the steel sector, condition monitoring systems (CMS), and temperature sensors.

Woojin has consistently conducted research and development in the SMR and offshore nuclear power fields, which have recently become established trends in nuclear power. Last year, the company expanded its investment in the SMR sector by contributing to a new technology business investment association that invests in global SMR companies.

A company representative stated, “The technologies for core components within nuclear power plants that the company possesses are essential for SMR and offshore nuclear power as well,” and added, “We plan to continuously carry out research, development, and service projects related to next-generation nuclear power this year as well.”
