Cosmax Bio Receives MFDS Approval for Rosemary Extract as Individually Recognized Ingredient

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Cosmax Group has received approval for rosemary extract-based ingredients as individually recognized ingredients. Cosmax Group aims to strengthen its material competitiveness in the health functional food market by expanding individually recognized ingredients.

Cosmax Bio, an ODM company specializing in research, development, and production of health functional foods (CEO Park Jung-wook), announced on the 17th that it recently received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for the ingredient ‘Rosemary Extract Complex’ as an individually recognized ingredient.

The Rosemary Extract Complex has been recognized by the MFDS for its functionality in “helping to maintain skin health from skin damage caused by ultraviolet rays.”

The Rosemary Extract Complex is a mixture of rosemary extract and marigold extract. Rosemary extract contains antioxidant components carnosol and carnosic acid. Marigold extract includes lutein and zeaxanthin, known to be beneficial for eye health by improving macular pigment density. The daily intake of 225 mg of the Rosemary Extract Complex contains 20 mg of lutein and 1.5 mg of zeaxanthin, allowing it to be labeled and advertised as a main ingredient.

Over the past four years, Cosmax Bio has researched and developed the Rosemary Extract Complex in collaboration with Daehan Chemtech, a specialist company in individually recognized ingredients, and Katra in India. Experimental results confirmed that it helps maintain skin health by reducing collagen degradation in the skin caused by ultraviolet damage.

Clinical trials also showed significant reductions in skin erythema, itching, and facial wrinkles, along with improvements in skin transparency, gloss, and radiance. Cosmax Bio has completed domestic patent registration for the Rosemary Extract Complex. Additionally, it has registered the brand name ‘SUNMAX,’ which implies strong resistance to sunlight, as a trademark for the Rosemary Extract Complex ingredient and plans to promote it.

Cosmax Bio plans to manufacture various formulations using the Rosemary Extract Complex ingredient in the future to provide consumers with easy and convenient ways to consume it.
