SK C&C to Establish Korea's First 'AI Brain Hemorrhage Diagnosis' Healthcare Center

SK C&C to Establish Korea's First 'AI Brain Hemorrhage Diagnosis' Healthcare Center

On the 17th, SK Inc. C&C announced that it will establish the nation's first AI-based brain hemorrhage diagnostic public health center.

SK C&C signed an agreement to apply the AI-based brain hemorrhage diagnostic solution, 'Medical Insight Plus Brain Hemorrhage,' together with Pyeongchang-gun Public Health Center in Gangwon Province. The Pyeongchang-gun Public Health Center is an institution where hospital functions have been added to health centers in medically underserved areas. Pyeongchang-gun will greatly benefit in managing the health of its residents by preserving the golden time for stroke emergency treatment, where every second counts.

Medical Insight Plus Brain Hemorrhage is an AI-based brain hemorrhage diagnostic solution developed in-house by SK C&C. It analyzes brain CT images within seconds and immediately informs medical staff of the hemorrhage location and abnormalities with over 97% accuracy. It can also detect small and subtle hemorrhages that are easy to miss, at the level of a neuro-radiology specialist. In August last year, it became the first AI brain hemorrhage diagnostic medical device in Korea to receive Class 3 medical device approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

The company explained that Pyeongchang-gun's adoption of Medical Insight Plus Brain Hemorrhage is also significant in terms of creating social value. Annual brain hemorrhage treatment costs reach 540 billion KRW, with large-scale social costs such as rehabilitation periods, and in regions lacking radiology specialists, patients risk missing the golden time. If medical staff at public health centers, which serve as emergency medical institutions in vulnerable areas, can quickly and accurately diagnose and respond on-site with AI assistance, it can save patients' lives and reduce enormous social costs. A Pyeongchang-gun official said, "We expect that the introduction of this AI solution will further improve the local emergency medical response system."

Yoon Dong-jun, head of SK C&C's Healthcare Group, said, "This introduction is the first case of applying SK C&C's medical AI technology to the regional public medical environment," adding, "We will strive to expand Medical Insight Plus Brain Hemorrhage to regional base public medical institutions responsible for frontline emergency medical sites at the county level in each region."
