"A Very Kind and Thoughtful Movie"
Director Lee Ji-eun's film Secret Hill has been invited to the children and youth section of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival. According to the overseas distributor Finecut, the film will be screened as a competition work in the 'Generation Kplus' section at the festival, which runs from the 10th to the 20th of next month. The Generation section features films that explore the lives and worlds of children and youth. It is divided into Kplus, suitable for all ages, and 14plus, for viewers aged 14 and older. Previous Korean films featured in this section include Director Yoon Ga-eun's Our Body (2016), Director Kim Bora's House of Hummingbird (2019), Director Kwon Min-pyo's Last Stop (2021), and Director Yoon Jae-ho's The Fighter (2021).
Secret Hill is Director Lee's feature debut, following her short films Santa Claus (2019), Sorting (2018), and I AM (2016). The film depicts the growth of twelve-year-old Myeong-eun, a girl with rich and delicate sensibility, as she learns about herself and her family through writing. Marianne Redpath, Executive Director of the Generation section, described it as "a very kind and thoughtful film," adding, "This year's Berlin Festival Generation will be a wonderful opportunity to present this work to the world for the first time."
