[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Protests against the government's COVID-19 quarantine policies, including vaccine passes, were held in various parts of downtown Seoul.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Victims' Families Association (Kobaekhoe) held a memorial event on the 15th in front of Cheonggye Plaza in Jung-gu, setting up a joint altar where the chief mourner placed a portrait and offered flowers.
They also introduced cases of those claiming to have been harmed by vaccination, and held events such as memorial songs, poetry readings, and a walking street march. They stated, "Our deaths are a man-made disaster caused by the government of the Republic of Korea," demanding that the government recognize the causal relationship with the vaccine and take appropriate measures. They urged the government to abandon its passive stance and investigate the causes of vaccine-related harm from multiple perspectives.
Three organizations, including the Student-Parent Human Rights Protection Coalition, marched from Meokgol Station to Suraksan Station on Subway Line 7, opposing mandatory vaccination. The National Parents' Association also held a rally in front of the Kyobo Building in Gwanghwamun, calling for the complete withdrawal of vaccine pass application for children and adolescents.
The COVID Pandemic Investigation Committee held a protest near Gangnam Station, and the Vaccine Human Rights Action Seoul Headquarters held a rally at Hongdae Entrance Station, both opposing vaccine passes. The Gyeonggi-do Medical Association and the COVID-19 Citizens' Solidarity also held rallies and marches in the city center.
