Mapo-gu 'Ansim Home Set' Support Alleviates 89% of Crime Anxiety Installation view of the Anshim Home Set

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Ji-won (20s, pseudonym), a single woman who got a job in Mapo-gu, said, "There were many nights when I couldn't sleep due to anxiety about home intrusion," and shared her thoughts on using the 'Safe Home Set,' saying, "Since installing the 'Safe Home Set,' I have been able to sleep peacefully."

According to statistics from the National Police Agency, home intrusion crimes increased by about 12%, from 16,092 cases in 2019 to 18,011 cases in 2020, causing growing anxiety among women living alone.

Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that it has completed the support of the 'Safe Home Set' for 136 single-woman households in cooperation with the Mapo Police Station and Mapo-gu Family Center to alleviate the crime-related anxiety of single-woman households.

The 'Safe Home Set' consists of a 'portable emergency bell' that, when pulled, sounds an alarm and reports to the Mapo Police Station, a 'door opening sensor' that sends a text alert when the door is opened, a 'window lock device' that prevents windows from being opened from outside, and a 'double lock device,' a safety hook for the front door.

For those who find it difficult to visit the Mapo-gu Family Center during the day due to work or other reasons, the service provides the option to receive the set in the evening, which has received positive feedback from users.

In a satisfaction survey conducted among participants, 88.8% responded positively to the 'alleviation of crime anxiety,' and 84% answered that they were very satisfied with the 'enhancement of the ability to respond to dangerous situations.'

Meanwhile, the district was selected for the 'Seoul Women's Safe Village Contest Project,' which creates a social and physical safe environment through the establishment of a sexual violence prevention network, receiving 10 million KRW in project funds from Seoul City and promoting the project from June to November last year.

Since last year's project showed high satisfaction among beneficiaries, the district plans to apply again this year to eliminate blind spots in crime prevention for single-woman households.

In addition, various projects for women's safety have been promoted, including the installation of safe delivery boxes through an agreement with the Mapo Police Station, safe return scouts, illegal filming citizen monitoring groups, and safe guardian projects.

As a result, last year, Mapo-gu was recognized as a women’s safety city by receiving the Minister’s Award, the only autonomous district in Seoul to be honored in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s commendation for child and women violence prevention and victim support.

Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The fact that a single pull of the emergency bell leads to a police report can be a great reassurance for women living alone," and added, "We will continue to do our best to make Mapo a reliable safety net for single-woman households."

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 14th that it will operate the 4th term of the 'Sinchon, Parang Gorae' university student reporter group from March to December.

The university student reporters cover major programs conducted at 'Sinchon, Parang Gorae' and report on culture, arts, youth, and urban regeneration in the Sinchon area, producing various content to promote on SNS and online communities.

They also participate in quarterly planning meetings of 'Sinchon, Parang Gorae' and produce their own promotional content.

The district is recruiting reporters among university students and those on leave who live or study in Seoul, who have a strong interest in urban regeneration, youth, culture, and arts, and who are interested in planning and producing various content such as videos and card news.

Applicants can download the application form from the Seodaemun-gu website’s public notice section and submit it via email (juh2ee@sdm.go.kr) by February 9.

The district plans to select 3 video PDs and 5 editors through document screening and interviews. Video PDs will be responsible for video content production, and editors will handle field reporting and article writing.

For the reporters, the district will hold a 'capacity-building workshop' where they can attend lectures by related experts from content planning to production. A small honorarium will be paid, and certificates will be awarded after the activities conclude in December this year.

Previously, the 3rd term of the reporter group last year consisted of 8 members and produced a total of 77 promotional contents.

Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "Through the activities of the university student reporters, 'Sinchon Parang Gorae' will become more familiar to citizens and will also add meaning as a youth participation space."
