[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) is establishing a comprehensive strategy for data standardization as a cornerstone for the introduction of MyData across all sectors.
In November last year, the PIPC reached a consensus on the need for cross-sector MyData standardization through the 'MyData Standardization Council.' On the 13th, it announced that on the 14th, it will hold a kickoff meeting for a consulting project aimed at preparing a concrete standardization strategy with the goal of introducing MyData nationwide across all sectors.
Although MyData has recently been introduced in financial and public sectors, data mobility across all sectors and personalized services have not yet been provided. Due to differences in data formats and transmission methods between sectors, there is a need to establish a foundation such as industry-wide MyData standardization.
This project aims to prepare a phased implementation plan (roadmap) for MyData standardization, which the PIPC will focus on promoting in the future. It is expected to serve as the foundation for the introduction of MyData across all sectors, centered on the top 10 major fields including finance, health and medical care, and information and communication.
The PIPC plans to commence full-scale standardization work after inter-ministerial discussions through the 'MyData Standardization Council' once the project results are available. It will standardize the MyData format focusing on common items across all sectors to ensure smooth transmission of personal information nationwide, and also standardize transmission methods such as data download and third-party provision, including authentication and security systems, thereby laying the groundwork for the introduction of MyData across all sectors.
Lee Jeong-ryeol, Director of the Personal Information Policy Bureau at the PIPC, stated, “For the introduction and successful settlement of MyData across all sectors, securing a safe utilization foundation that the public can trust, including standardization for cross-sector MyData linkage, is a prerequisite. Through the establishment of a standardization strategy, the PIPC will proactively create a MyData environment where data subjects can safely and conveniently exercise their right to self-determination over their personal information without being restricted by sector.”
