[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Air Busan announced on the 13th that it has maintained the number one market share by transporting approximately 12 million passengers on the domestic Gimpo-Busan route over the past 10 years.
Analyzing the passenger transport performance on the Gimpo-Busan route over 10 years (2012-2021), Air Busan transported a total of 12,508,300 passengers. This accounts for about 44%, nearly half, of the total passengers (28,181,765) on the route during the same period.
Air Busan first operated the Gimpo-Busan route in October 2008. In the following year, 2009, the number of passengers on Air Busan’s Gimpo-Busan route was about half that of the major airlines operating the route at the time, but due to continuous passenger growth, it has maintained the number one passenger market share since 2015. Last year, it was the only domestic airline to operate more than 10,000 flights, transporting approximately 1.55 million passengers.
Air Busan cited the convenience of flight schedules as the key to holding the number one market share on the Gimpo-Busan route. From the early days, it operated the ‘3060 Shuttle Service’ on this route to enhance passenger convenience. This service departs from Gimpo every hour at 30 minutes past the hour and from Busan on the hour (60 minutes), like a shuttle bus.
Another strength is that the number of daily flights is nearly four times higher than other airlines. Currently, Air Busan operates an average of 28 flights per day (14 round trips) on the Gimpo-Busan route, expanding passengers’ options for flight times.
Air Busan stated, "Since the first flight in October 2008, we have maintained safe operations on this route without a single accident, building high operational reliability, which is the secret to being number one in passenger transport for seven consecutive years," and added, "We will continue to strive to be recognized by customers using the Gimpo-Busan route with perfect safety and convenient schedules.”
