[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The best-selling full-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) model in the United States, Chevrolet Tahoe, has been launched in Korea.

Korea GM announced on the 12th that it will begin pre-orders for the full-size SUV "The Absolute Tahoe (TAHOE)" through the Chevrolet online shop. Tahoe is Chevrolet's flagship SUV and has been the best-selling full-size SUV model in the U.S. since its launch in 1984 based on cumulative sales.

Tahoe shares the same platform as its sibling vehicles, the Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon, known as the kings of GM brand SUVs, and has been newly reborn through five generations. Kaher Kazem, President of Korea GM, said, "Tahoe is Chevrolet's flagship SUV and the best choice among high-end lifestyles that can be experienced through automobiles," adding, "With the launch of Tahoe, Chevrolet's domestic SUV and pickup lineup, ranging from compact to full-size including Trailblazer, Traverse, and Colorado, will be strengthened to a total of six models, satisfying the diverse personalities and needs of Korean customers."

The Tahoe released domestically is the highest grade High Country model, a 7-seater equipped with second-row power release captain seats and third-row power folding seats. Measuring 5,352 mm in length, 2,057 mm in width, 1,925 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,071 mm, the Tahoe boasts an overwhelming size and features 22-inch chrome silver premium painted wheels that showcase its majestic presence.

As a full-size SUV, the space is also ample. The second-row legroom measures 1,067 mm, and the third-row legroom is 886 mm, allowing seven adults to travel long distances comfortably. The cargo capacity is 722 liters with the third row upright, increasing up to 3,480 liters when folded down to the second row.

The front design incorporates Chevrolet's latest family look with a youthful touch while maintaining the dignified design elements of the previous generation. The front features newly designed LED headlamps and taillamps, as well as active aero shutters that minimize air resistance to improve fuel efficiency. Additionally, signature elements such as the large chrome High Country logo and Galvano cream grille are applied throughout to complete a unique style.

Fitting for a full-size SUV, the Tahoe is equipped with a 6.2L V8 direct injection gasoline engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering a maximum output of 426 horsepower and a maximum torque of 63.6 kg·m. The maximum towing capacity is 3,493 kg. Furthermore, it comes standard with a push-button gear shift and four-wheel drive system, and for the first time in the industry, it features the 'Dynamic Fuel Management system (DFM)' that activates and deactivates engine cylinders in 17 modes. Thanks to DFM, the fuel efficiency is a respectable 6.8 km/L considering the massive body.

The interior is equipped with various convenience and multimedia systems. The driver's seat features a 12-inch LCD cluster and a large 15-inch color head-up display. Behind the first-row headrests, a 12.6-inch dual-color touch display is standard, supporting two HDMI ports and two Bluetooth wireless headsets, allowing passengers to individually enjoy various multimedia content.

Additionally, the center fascia is equipped with a 10.2-inch high-resolution color touch screen, and through the Chevrolet infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can be used wirelessly without cable connection. Other convenience features include automatic heated and ventilated seats in the first row and heated seats in the second row as standard.

Safety features are also abundant. The vehicle is equipped with a total of seven airbags, including a front seat center airbag, and includes front pedestrian detection and braking systems, which are evaluated to reduce front collision accidents by 21%. Other standard safety features include a digital surround vision camera, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert and blind spot warning systems, driver seat haptic warning system, smart high beam, hill descent control, and hill start assist.

Chevrolet will also expand the 'Chevrolet Premium Care Service,' introduced last month to enhance its premium image, to the new Tahoe. The Premium Care Service consists of an express service that allows quick and convenient regular vehicle inspections and consumable replacements without prior reservation, and a pickup & delivery service that picks up the vehicle from the customer's desired location and returns it after repairs without the customer needing to visit the service center.

Meanwhile, the new Tahoe will be launched in a single High Country trim, with a 'Tahoe Dark Night' special edition available for customers seeking a more differentiated style. The price of the new Tahoe is 92.53 million KRW based on the reduced individual consumption tax, and the Dark Night special edition is priced at 93.63 million KRW.
