[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are expectations that the price of Apple's ‘iPhone 14’ series, expected to be released in the second half of this year, will increase compared to its predecessor.
On the 11th (local time), IT specialist media PhoneArena, citing IT tipster LeaksApplePro, revealed the expected prices of the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 14 lineup will first see a change in composition. The 5.4-inch ‘Mini’ model will be discontinued, and it is expected to be released in four models: ▲iPhone 14 (6.1 inches) ▲iPhone 14 Max (6.7 inches) ▲iPhone 14 Pro (6.1 inches) ▲iPhone 14 Pro Max (6.7 inches).
The base model is expected to start at $799 (approximately 950,000 KRW), maintaining the same price as its predecessor. However, the other three models ? ▲iPhone 14 Max ($899) ▲iPhone 14 Pro ($1,099) ▲iPhone 14 Pro Max ($1,199) ? are expected to be released at prices about $100 higher than the previous generation.
For reference, the ‘iPhone 13’ series released last year was priced at ▲iPhone 13 Mini ($699) ▲iPhone 13 ($799) ▲iPhone 13 Pro ($999) ▲iPhone 13 Pro Max ($1,099) for the 128GB storage variant.
It has been suggested that the two high-end Pro models in the iPhone 14 series may adopt a ‘punch-hole’ design instead of the traditional notch. The notch design, used to accommodate the Face ID facial recognition technology, has been one of the biggest user complaints as it disrupts screen immersion. Additionally, various speculations include switching from the existing Lightning port to a USB-C port and applying the 120Hz refresh rate, which was only available on Pro models in the iPhone 13 series, across the entire lineup.
