Dongjak-gu Earned 19 Billion KRW Through External Organization Competitions

Smart City Solution Projects and Living SOC Complex Projects Focused on Attracting Resident-Centered Initiatives... The 'Proactive Work Culture' of Dongjak-gu Employees is the Greatest Driving Force Elevating External Status

Dongjak-gu Earned 19 Billion KRW Through External Organization Competitions

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced on the 11th that it successfully attracted a total of 61 public contest projects, including the Life SOC Complex Project, last year, receiving recognition for project performance and proactiveness from the government and external organizations.

As a result, the district secured a total project budget of 19 billion KRW over the past year.

Since Mayor Lee Chang-woo took office in 2014, Dongjak-gu has emphasized the "innovation of the working culture in the public service." The change in work attitude has greatly influenced the management of Dongjak-gu. Before 2014, there was virtually no scale of public contest project attraction, but from 2015 to the present, the district has attracted 357 public contest projects, securing a total budget of 164 billion KRW.

Last year, as promised to residents with the administrative direction of "Dongjak-gu Office that affects everything and everywhere in my life," the district made an all-out effort to attract public contest projects directly related to residents' lives. Notable achievements were seen in projects that care for people's livelihood and improve living environments, such as ▲Job and Economy sector (17 projects, 4 billion KRW) ▲Regional Development sector (7 projects, 13 billion KRW) ▲Health and Welfare sector (14 projects, 1.3 billion KRW).

In particular, being selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s "Smart City Solution Expansion Project" holds special significance. Since 2019, the district has been preparing for the transition to a future city by striving to solve residents' daily problems by integrating "smart technology." This selection in the public contest is the fruit of those efforts, and a smart demonstration project worth 4 billion KRW will be promoted.

The main project contents include the installation of ▲smart crosswalks ▲smart poles ▲smart bus stops along the 5.1 km section from Sadang-ro to Sangdo-ro. Since this area is expected to see increased traffic due to the construction of Jangseungbaegi Comprehensive Administrative Town and the expansion of Sadang-ro, it is anticipated that residents’ experience of smart city services will be enhanced.

Meanwhile, the selection for the Life SOC Complex Project contest also stands out. The district was selected for the Life SOC Complex Project contest by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, receiving 5.2 billion KRW in national funding for the construction of sports facilities and libraries. This will accelerate the long-awaited resident projects of expanding the swimming pool in the Sangdo area and building a complex library in the Sindaebang area.

Kim Hyun-ho, Director of Planning and Coordination Division, said, “The working culture established from the 6th to the 7th local government terms seems to have led to the achievement of attracting public contest projects,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to attract public contest projects so that many residents can feel happiness and pride living in Dongjak-gu.”
