[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 9th that it will start the main sales of the '2022 Lunar New Year Gift Sets' from the 14th, emphasizing 'eco-friendliness' and 'premium'. The quantity has increased by 25% compared to last Lunar New Year, totaling about 540,000 sets.

With growing interest in eco-friendliness and veganism recently, new products such as vegan toothpaste and hand care sets have been introduced, expanding the share of related gift sets by 20%.

Representative products include the 'Q Garden Premium Set', inspired by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in the UK since 1759, consisting of hand wash, hand cream, and soap made only with plant-based ingredients, and the vegan-certified Swiss toothpaste 'Curaprox BiYou Mini Toothpaste 6-piece Set' made with plant-based ingredients.

For popular holiday gifts such as Korean beef and fruits, eco-friendly packaging has been expanded to lead the creation of a culture of conscientious consumption. Paper fruit baskets will be offered at all stores. Considering that the existing fruit baskets were made of rattan and difficult to recycle, this year they will be produced and provided using paper and hemp materials.

The printing of paper boxes mainly used for fruit gift sets such as apples and pears has also changed. Since last Chuseok, Shinsegae has produced paper boxes using uncoated recycled paper with soy ink printing to minimize environmental impact and reduce the proportion of chemical materials. The eco-friendly cooling bags introduced by Shinsegae are made from R-PET fabric recycled from discarded PET bottles, waste clothing, and paperboard, and have excellent cooling effects, replacing existing synthetic resin cooling bags that pose environmental pollution concerns. A dedicated eco bag made of hemp material that can hold wine will also be newly introduced this Lunar New Year.

Premium gift sets will also be expanded. The quantity of premium Korean beef and dried yellow corvina products has increased by 20% compared to last Lunar New Year. Differentiated gift sets, such as collaboration products with famous restaurants and luxury hotels that allow families to experience restaurant-quality flavors at home during times when dining out is difficult, have also been increased. Shinsegae Department Store’s gift sets in collaboration with famous restaurants have received positive customer responses, leading to additional production every year. Accordingly, Shinsegae has secured more than twice the quantity of collaboration sets with famous restaurants compared to the previous year to capture demand.

In addition, Shinsegae Department Store introduces 'Direct Auction Korean Beef Gift Sets' where livestock buyers participate directly in auctions. Representative products include 'Direct Auction Korean Beef Steak' and 'Direct Auction Korean Beef Manbok'.

Online products through SSG.com have also been strengthened. The quantity of online-exclusive products at Shinsegae Department Store has increased by 20% compared to last year. Along with premium Korean beef and exotic fruit sets, you can also find processed and health food sets exclusively planned with 'O’sulloc' and 'DuoRak'. Department store products on SSG.com are also available through the 'Gift' service. This year, a 'bulk purchase' feature allowing gifts to be sent to up to 200 people at once has been added for greater convenience.
