National Treasure Investment Firm Redhill Biopharma Signs Exclusive License Agreement for 'Talicia' with UAE Company

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] RedHill Biopharma, a US/Israel biotechnology company in which Kookbo Co., Ltd., a KOSPI-listed company, has acquired shares, announced on the 6th that it signed an exclusive license agreement for Talicia® with UAE specialized bio company Gaelan Medical Trade LLC.

Gaelan Medical is reported to have secured exclusive rights to commercialize Talicia in the United Arab Emirates and a first negotiation right to commercialize Talicia in the Gulf Cooperation Council region (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman).

RedHill CEO Dror Ben-Asher stated, “We are very pleased to collaborate with Gaelan Medical to supply Talicia, a treatment for Helicobacter pylori, to the UAE and the Middle East region,” adding, “The partnership between the two companies is very meaningful because Helicobacter pylori affects up to 84% of the population in the Middle East and is one of the strongest risk factors for gastric cancer. Talicia, which has demonstrated eradication rates in clinical trials, represents a significant license agreement. RedHill will continue to expand Talicia’s reach globally with our partners.”

Talicia is a treatment approved by the US FDA in November 2019 and was launched in March 2020. It has been designated as a QIDP (Qualified Infectious Disease Product) by the FDA, allowing exclusive sales in the US for eight years, and is currently undergoing additional patent applications in various regions worldwide.

Meanwhile, domestically, Kookbo acquired shares of RedHill on the 8th, and announced that it has been granted the first negotiation rights for the distribution rights contract covering the domestic distribution of RedHill’s oral COVID-19 treatment (Opaganib, RHB-107) and Talicia, as well as distribution in major Asian regions.
