[Featured Stock] Sejong Industrial Rises on Samsung-Led Robot M&A Hints, Highlighting Samsung, Hyundai, and LG Collaboration

[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Sejong Industrial stock is on the rise. As expectations for Samsung Electronics' mergers and acquisitions (M&A) increase, the track record of its subsidiary Mobius & Value Chain collaborating with Samsung, Hyundai, LG, and others in the robotics field appears to have been highlighted.

As of 11:27 AM on the 7th, Sejong Industrial's stock price recorded 8,930 KRW, up 4.32% compared to the previous day. With the possibility of Samsung Electronics' M&A becoming a reality soon, the collaboration history in the robotics sector, which Samsung is focusing on, has been emphasized, raising expectations for M&A benefits.

Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and Head of Samsung Electronics DX Division, responded to a question about M&A promotion at CES 2022, the world's largest IT and home appliance exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, on the 5th (local time), saying, "There will likely be good news soon." Earlier, Samsung Electronics announced in early last year that it would pursue meaningful M&A within three years, but no significant M&A news has emerged yet, which has heightened expectations.

In particular, as Samsung Electronics has elevated its robotics business task force (TF) to a robotics business team and is fostering the robotics business by applying its advanced self-developed robotics technology to various fields, expectations are focused on companies in the robotics sector.

Sejong Industrial is conducting various robotics-related businesses through its subsidiary Mobius & Value Chain. In July 2020, during a demonstration of autonomous mobile robots (AMR) at MS Autotech's Gyeongju plant, about 50 executives and employees from domestic companies including Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Glovis, Samsung Electronics, and Kakao attended. In November of the same year, it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG CNS for smart logistics cooperation utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), logistics, and collaborative robots. It also secured a project to introduce autonomous forklifts (AFL) at Hyundai Motor Company's Uiwang Research Center and promoted technology development. In March last year, it won a project from Samsung Electronics' subsidiary Samsung Electro-Mechanics to verify the operability of autonomous forklifts at Samsung Group's logistics centers for the first time.
