[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, pledged to extend the currently under-construction metropolitan area express train (GTX) lines in the Seoul metropolitan area and to introduce three additional new lines if elected.

On the 7th, before announcing this pledge, Candidate Yoon traveled by subway from Gimpo Airport Station to the People Power Party headquarters. This was intended to directly experience the commuting difficulties of citizens and to combine this with his commitment to strengthening on-site activities following the launch of the new election campaign headquarters.

Regarding the line extensions, Candidate Yoon decided to extend the A and C lines among the three GTX lines (A, B, and C) scheduled for completion by 2027. The A line will be extended from Unjeong-Dongtan to Unjeong-Dongtan-Pyeongtaek, and the C line will be extended from Deokjeong-Suwon to Dongducheon-Deokjeong-Suwon-Pyeongtaek. Three new GTX lines will also be promoted. The D line will be based on the Gimpo-Daejang-Sillim-Sadang-Samsung-Hanam-Paldang route, with an additional branch from Samsung connecting Samsung-Suseo-Gwangju-Yeoju. The E line will connect Incheon-Gimpo Airport-Jeongneung-Guri-Namyangju. The F line will be a circular line covering the entire metropolitan area, linking Goyang-Ansan-Suwon-Yongin-Seongnam-Hanam-Uijeongbu-Goyang. Only the Seongnam-Goyang section will be newly constructed, while the rest will utilize existing lines such as the Seohae Line and Suin-Bundang Line.

They also plan to secure land around the GTX lines to create ‘compact cities’ with 10,000 to 20,000 housing units near stations. Approximately 250,000 housing units will be supplied, including 30,000 units near the first phase GTX three lines, 20,000 units near the existing C line, and 200,000 units in the second phase. The estimated cost for extending and establishing the GTX lines is 17.644 trillion won.
