[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) held the ‘2022 Mapo-gu New Year Greeting Meeting’ online through Mapo-gu’s official YouTube channel (my Mapo) at 3 p.m. on the 6th to welcome the Year of the Black Tiger.

The event opened with a video of residents’ New Year wishes conveyed in the virtual space called ‘Mapo World’ and a Mapo resident dance challenge video choreographed to BTS’s ‘Permission to Dance,’ symbolizing overcoming COVID-19.

Following this, the Odyssey performance team gave a congratulatory performance of ‘Beom Naeryeonda,’ and attendees enjoyed a Mapo-gu tourism promotional video. Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun and key local figures shared their New Year greetings.

The event concluded with the Odyssey performance team’s congratulatory performance of ‘Areumdaun Nara’ (Beautiful Country).

On this day, Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun said, “Last year, many major projects in Mapo-gu received positive evaluations from outside, which was very rewarding,” adding, “This year, we will focus our administrative capabilities on healing the economy, which has worsened due to COVID-19, and strengthening the social safety net.”

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) attended the ‘2022 New Year Greeting Meeting’ held at 3 p.m. on the 6th at the Yangcheon Cultural Center Grand Theater and delivered a New Year’s address.

Strictly adhering to quarantine rules and limiting the event to a minimum scale (under 100 people), Mayor Kim used this opportunity to explain Yangcheon-gu’s vision and key policies for 2022 to residents.

He stated that this year’s theme is ‘Healing, Leap, Together,’ aiming to overcome crises and become a city with the strength to move forward as a ‘Resilience City Yangcheon.’ To achieve this, efforts will be concentrated in the fields of culture, gardens, smart future, balance, inclusion, and carbon neutrality.

On the afternoon of the 6th, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il visited the Mullae Arts Complex, a cultural space combining art and technology.

The ‘Mullae Arts Complex’ was established to support communication and collaboration between artists and steel and metal manufacturing technicians inside and outside the region, and to provide local residents with opportunities to enjoy culture and arts.

Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “I hope the Mullae Arts Complex will become a hub where artists, technicians, and local residents gather to empathize and communicate, rediscovering the social value of culture and arts, and where art and technology collaborate and coexist.”

On the 6th, Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Seon-gap joined Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum at Hyemin Hospital, a COVID-19 dedicated hospital, to conduct an on-site medical response inspection.

Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum and Mayor Kim Seon-gap received explanations from Director Kim Byung-kwan of Hyemin Hospital regarding the operation of the COVID-19 dedicated hospital and took time to encourage medical staff.

They then visited the outpatient clinic, beds for patients released from isolation, moderate to severe beds, and severe beds in sequence to hear about the operational status and inspect the facilities.

Hyemin Hospital in Gwangjin-gu was designated as Seoul’s first COVID-19 dedicated hospital on December 6 last year to efficiently treat critically ill and high-risk COVID-19 patients, playing a central role in Seoul’s COVID-19 medical response.

On this day, Mayor Kim Seon-gap, as the head of Gwangjin-gu’s frontline quarantine system, conveyed suggestions regarding the quarantine system to Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum.

He pointed out that the burden of fines for violating COVID-19 quarantine rules is high for managers and operators and requested improvements in detailed fines and administrative measures for business owners.

Additionally, he proposed issuing card-type vaccination certificates with QR codes as an alternative method to verify the quarantine pass for smartphone users who are elderly (70 years and older), disabled, and others who have completed vaccination.

He also requested consideration of the safe accommodation operation, which Gwangjin-gu is the first in Seoul to provide for families of home-treated patients.

Safe accommodation is provided free of charge to families who must quarantine together when a home-treated patient occurs among family members, minimizing inconvenience and reducing the risk of infection among family members.

Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, “Many people are working on the front lines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but many citizens are feeling fatigued in the seemingly endless tunnel of COVID-19,” adding, “I visited to encourage and to convey the detailed situation on site to Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum and to offer several proposals.” He continued, “If everyone puts their heads together and gathers wisdom, we can recover to normal life more quickly.”
