[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon) raised allegations of past sexual bribery involving Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, citing investigation materials from the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office. In response, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office denied the claim, stating, "These are not our records."
According to the legal community on the 5th, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office told reporters the previous day, "There were suspicions that certain materials recently presented by a specific YouTube channel were leaked from the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office," and added, "It has been confirmed that no records preserved by the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office were leaked."
The Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office also emphasized that the materials presented by Gaseyeon differ in format from the records preserved by the prosecution.
On December 27 of last year, Gaseyeon claimed through a YouTube broadcast, "Representative Lee received sexual bribery in 2013 from Kim Sung-jin, CEO of iKist, at a hotel in Yuseong, Daejeon," and asserted, "This was confirmed through investigation materials from the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office."
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office assigned the case, in which Gaseyeon and the civic group Judicial Exam Preparation Students' Association (Sajunmo) filed a complaint against Representative Lee, to the Anti-Corruption and Violent Crime Investigation Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Jeong Yong-hwan).
