[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Kim So-yeon, head of the Daejeon branch of the People Power Party's city administration monitoring team, posted a revealing post claiming that Rep. Hong Joon-pyo is creating public opinion for a candidate replacement theory and asserted that she has a recorded phone conversation with Rep. Hong. In response, Rep. Hong retorted, "I don't do anything that could be used against me."
On the 2nd, Kim posted on her Facebook under the title "The Good and Evil of Politics, Hong Joon-pyo, Lee Jun-seok, and Yeouido," saying, "President Yoon Seok-yeol surely knows well, but I would like to offer my commentary on the current incomprehensible phenomenon to the anxious supporters."
Kim stated, "You can see that Rep. Hong is currently working hard behind the scenes," and added, "At the beginning of the year, he floated the candidate replacement theory to steadily create public opinion for a sudden candidate replacement in mid-January, coinciding with Lee Jun-seok's return to the election committee, while bribing out-of-office chairpersons, reporters, and lawmakers."
She then mentioned a phone call with Rep. Hong last fall, saying, "He called me, confidently saying there would be a 'golden cross,' and told me not to criticize Lee Jun-seok; this conversation should be automatically recorded," and questioned, "How did Rep. Hong confidently tell me about the golden cross in the polls?"
She continued, "I understand that after the primary, there was an unsettled issue involving a person who was involved in the Hong Camp's polling, which even led to an assault incident. What kind of dealings did they have with the polling agencies?" and sarcastically added, "Rep. Hong, who usually demanded to be removed from Gallup polls and promoted distrust in polling, why has he suddenly become a staunch believer in polls?"
Regarding the current atmosphere within the People Power Party, she commented, "With the scandal involving Representative Lee's sexual bribery breaking out and further revelations expected about Rep. Hong, it seems that those whose plans have been disrupted are visibly in a state of mental breakdown."

Meanwhile, Rep. Hong, in an interview with News1 on the same day, responded to Kim's claims, saying, "Would I say anything that could be used against me to such a person? Having been through thick and thin, I don't do anything that could be exploited."
Regarding the recorded phone conversation mentioned by Kim, he dismissed it, saying, "There is nothing in it," and criticized, "People who record conversations, regardless of friend or foe, are of poor quality."
On the same day, Rep. Hong also expressed displeasure on his online platform "Youth's Dream." When a netizen pointed out, "Isn't Kim So-yeon lawyer's statement a case of false information dissemination? Spreading personal opinions as facts has gone too far," Rep. Hong replied, "A somewhat strange person."
