Global Research Survey "Multi-Candidate Race Support Rates: Lee 37%, Yoon 28.1%, Ahn 9.1%"
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] A poll released on the 3rd showed that more respondents believe Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party is more suitable if Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party’s presidential candidate, and Ahn Cheol-soo were to unify their candidacies. This result draws attention as it comes at a time when Yoon’s approval ratings are declining due to recent internal conflicts within the People Power Party, while Ahn is gaining attention as an 'alternative candidate' in the opposition and experiencing a rise in support.
According to a survey conducted by Global Research on behalf of JTBC from the 1st to the 2nd, targeting 1,012 people nationwide, 41.1% of respondents chose Ahn as the more suitable candidate assuming a unification between Yoon Seok-yeol and Ahn Cheol-soo. Those who chose Yoon accounted for 30.6%, with a gap of 10.5 percentage points between the two.
However, among respondents who supported the unification of candidates, Yoon was rated more suitable at 55.9%, compared to Ahn’s 35.9%. Additionally, among respondents who desire a regime change, 48.7% chose Yoon, while 33.7% chose Ahn. When limiting respondents to opposition supporters, this can be interpreted as a favorable terrain for Yoon.
In response to the question, “Who do you think bears more responsibility for the internal conflict within the People Power Party?” more than half, 56.7%, pointed to Yoon, while 31.3% pointed to Representative Lee Jun-seok. Among People Power Party supporters, 57.4% saw Representative Lee as more responsible, and 32.7% pointed to Yoon.
When asked about the likelihood of winning regardless of support, Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung received 53.2%, while Yoon received 27.8%. In a multi-candidate race, Lee had 37.0% and Yoon had 28.1%, with a gap of 8.9 percentage points. Lee’s numbers were similar to the survey conducted from the 17th to the 19th of last month (37.9%), but Yoon’s dropped by 5.4 percentage points. Ahn followed with 9.1%, and Justice Party candidate Sim Sang-jung had 3.2%. The margin of error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The response rate was 17.4%, and the survey was conducted using mobile phone safe numbers as the sampling frame.
