Presidential Candidate Support: Lee Jae-myung 32.8%, Yoon Seok-youl 25.4% [AKY Poll]

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] In the next presidential candidate support poll, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, recorded 32.8%, while former Prime Minister Yoon received 25.4%, with Lee leading Yoon.


On the 3rd, Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion survey (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response) targeting 1,009 voters aged 18 and over nationwide from the 28th to 29th of last month. When asked "Who would you vote for in next year's presidential election?" Lee received 32.8%, and Yoon received 25.4%. Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party presidential candidate, received 6.3%, and Sim Sang-jung, the Justice Party presidential candidate, received 3.7%. Following them were Heo Kyung-young of the National Revolutionary Party with 1.0%, and Kim Dong-yeon of the New Wave Party with 0.7%. Other figures accounted for 0.6%, and none or unsure was 29.5%.


Lee showed strength among those in their 40s (49.7%) and 50s (45.7%), the Honam region (55.1%), and by occupation, white-collar workers (39.7%). On the other hand, Yoon was dominant among those aged 60 and over (49.4%), Daegu·Gyeongbuk (40.1%), Gangwon·Jeju (48.3%), housewives (40.0%), and the unemployed (42.9%).

By ideological inclination, Lee led with 55.1% among progressives, while Yoon led with 52.1% among conservatives. Among moderates, Lee (30.9%) was 6.6 percentage points higher than Yoon (24.3%).


This survey was conducted by Asia Economy commissioning Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and over nationwide from the 28th to 29th of last month, with 1,009 respondents and an overall response rate of 10.7%. The survey method was 100% mobile phone virtual numbers and telephone interview survey. The sample was extracted with weighting by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
