[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Company's representative New Year's event, the 'Yeongdong-daero Countdown,' was held again this year as a contactless drone light show, following last year.
The '2022 Yeongdong-daero Countdown Drone Light Show,' which began at the moment of welcoming the New Year on the 1st, was designed as a differentiated countdown ceremony so that people could fully enjoy the moment of the New Year despite the strengthened social distancing measures, Hyundai Motor explained.
First, a performance was held featuring sky lantern drones inspired by lanterns that float in the sky with wishes written on them. Customers' New Year wishes for 2022, collected through online and offline events, were written and floated using these drones.
Afterwards, a total of about 600 drones, including regular drones, conveyed messages of hope for the New Year over Yeongdong-daero.
Started in 2011 and marking its 11th year this year, the 'Yeongdong-daero Countdown' event has been held as a contactless drone light show since last year.
Last year's drone show, the first of its kind held in a domestic urban area, garnered great response with about 6.7 million views on Hyundai Motor's YouTube channels both domestically and internationally.
