[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] The People Power Party has pointed out the ambiguity of the question in response to a poll result showing that a significant portion of the party's supporters wish to replace the presidential candidate.
On the 31st, Lee Yangsoo, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party's election committee, mentioned a technical error related to reports stating that "a significant portion of the People Power Party supporters want to replace the candidate" in a press statement. Lee said, "There were ambiguous and inaccurate parts in the poll question," adding, "Because of this, a mistaken analysis emerged suggesting that People Power Party supporters want to replace presidential candidate Yoon Seokyeol."
Lee explained that the question about the necessity of candidate replacement in the poll was phrased as "What do you think about the need to replace the current ruling and opposition presidential candidates?" He stated, "It was not a question about replacing a specific candidate," and argued, "It is highly likely that People Power Party supporters responded with Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung in mind." He continued, "82% of People Power Party supporters responded that they intend to continue supporting candidate Yoon," emphasizing, "Accurate questions lead to accurate answers."
Earlier, Hangil Research announced the results of a poll conducted on about one thousand voters nationwide on the 28th of last month, commissioned by Asia Economy. In this poll, 56.6% responded positively to the question "Should the ruling and opposition presidential candidates be replaced?" Among People Power Party supporters, 70.4% answered that candidate replacement was necessary. In contrast, 35.7% of Democratic Party supporters gave the same response to the question. The poll's margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
