KCCI January 4 'New Year Meeting'... Chey Tae-won Attends as Chairman for the First Time Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The 2022 New Year's Meeting of the Business Community hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will be held simultaneously online and offline on January 4 next year. The 2022 New Year's Meeting is the first occasion where KCCI Chairman Chey Tae-won will participate as a host, and it is virtually the last opportunity for President Moon Jae-in to attend. President Moon has not attended the New Year's Meeting for four consecutive years.

KCCI announced that the "2022 New Year's Meeting of the Business Community" will be held on the afternoon of January 4 at the KCCI Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, attendance is limited to one representative or executive at the vice president level or higher per company or institution.

Attendees must be either fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or, if unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, must present a negative result from a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. KCCI plans to broadcast the event live on YouTube. At the New Year's Meeting, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum and KCCI Chairman Chey Tae-won are scheduled to deliver greetings.

The KCCI New Year's Meeting is the largest annual event in the business community, gathering figures from the economic sector, politics, government, and labor. Although the president usually attends to greet business leaders, President Moon Jae-in has been absent for four consecutive years. However, amid recent US-China tensions, supply chain restructuring, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) issues emerging as key economic security concerns, there are indications that communication between the business community and the government is crucial, and it is reported that President Moon may attend this year's New Year's Meeting.
