This Year Again, "Please Use It for Child Heads of Households" - 70,094,960 Won Left Behind
...80 Million Won Donated 23 Times Over 22 Years Since 2000
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The benevolent acts of the "Faceless Angel" of Nosong-dong, who has made Jeonju a city full of love and compassion, continued again this year.
According to Jeonju City on the 29th, at 10:05 a.m. that day, a phone call was received at the Nosong-dong Community Service Center in Jeonju.
The voice of a middle-aged man was that of the Faceless Angel of Nosong-dong, who visits around this time every year.
The angel said, "I placed a box on the truck bed near the uphill road of Seongsan Church. Please use it for underprivileged neighbors."
Following the conversation with the middle-aged man, the community center staff checked and found a box on the truck in front of Seongsan Church, which contained one piggy bank filled with bundles of 50,000 won bills and coins.
The total amount was counted as 70,094,960 won.
Thus, the Faceless Angel, whose name and occupation remain unknown, has donated a total of 808,728,110 won over 23 occasions spanning 22 years.
An A4 sheet of paper, believed to be a letter left by the angel that day, contained a typed message: "To all the young heads of households, stay strong and have a happy new year. I hope you help underprivileged neighbors and have a warm year."
The donation sent by the Faceless Angel will be used through the Community Chest of Korea to support socially marginalized groups such as elderly living alone and young heads of households in the region.
The "Faceless Angel of Nosong-dong" got its name after sending a piggy bank containing 584,000 won to the Jungno 2-dong Community Service Center through an elementary school student in April 2000 and then disappearing. Since then, the angel has quietly continued good deeds around Christmas every year.
In this regard, residents of the Nosong-dong area designated October 4th as "Angel's Day," reminiscent of the number angel (1004), to honor the meaning of this Faceless Angel and emulate their benevolence. Six surrounding neighborhoods jointly hold an Angel Festival and conduct sharing events to help underprivileged neighbors.
Additionally, in January 2010, to commemorate the hidden meaning of the Faceless Angel and to widely spread a beautiful culture of donation, a "Faceless Angel Monument" was erected in the flower bed of the Nosong-dong Community Service Center with the inscription: "You are a true person who brightens and beautifies the world like a candle in the darkness. We love you."
In December 2015, a Donation Angel Rest Area was created around the community center, the adjacent main road was named "Angel's Road," and the nearby area was named "Angel Village." In 2017, angel murals were painted along Angel's Road, and in 2018, an Angel Memorial Hall was established at the entrance of the community center.
