[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Wia announced on the 29th that it has opened a digital showroom using virtual reality (VR) on its website so that customers interested in automotive parts and machine tools can easily view and understand the products.
Hyundai Wia opened the digital showroom considering the increase in non-face-to-face product promotion in business-to-business (B2B) transactions after the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the first domestic automotive parts company to open a digital showroom.
Using VR technology, Hyundai Wia designed the showroom so that customers can visit a virtual space and examine the products as if they were there in person. In the virtual showroom, Hyundai Wia employees guide customers and allow them to directly experience each product.
When moving to the area where eco-friendly parts, engines, modules, and drive parts produced by Hyundai Wia are exhibited, researchers from Hyundai Wia appear on the virtual screen to provide direct explanations. Unlike the existing website where only product photos and specifications could be checked, this showroom features detailed explanations covering all information including the product’s unique advantages.
Hyundai Wia also set up a ‘seminar room’ in the digital showroom. By integrating metaverse functions, customers visiting the digital showroom can meet in the seminar room to conduct business meetings.
Considering the prolonged COVID-19 situation, Hyundai Wia plans to actively pursue global order activities based on this showroom. In addition, all content including detailed product explanations has been produced in English to accommodate global finished vehicle customers.
Digital Showroom for Machine Tool Customers Also Opened on the Same Day
Hyundai Wia also opened a digital showroom for machine tool customers on the same day. The machine tool digital showroom is also designed using VR technology to give customers the feeling of being in a large-scale exhibition hall.
Upon entering the showroom, a virtual exhibition hall unfolds where customers can see 24 types of machine tools representing Hyundai Wia. By clicking arrows to find areas such as smart factories, 5-axis machining centers, lathes, and machining centers, customers can view detailed information about the products. In addition to product explanation videos, customers can check the maximum size of workpieces that can be machined, machining samples, and demonstration videos for each machine tool.
Hyundai Wia, emphasizing its specialization as a machine tool manufacturer for eco-friendly automotive parts machining, also allows customers to see actual machining cases of eco-friendly car parts. By clicking the center of the showroom, customers can learn which Hyundai Wia machine tools can produce key automotive parts such as ‘motor housing,’ ‘battery case,’ and ‘axle hub,’ as well as the time required until completion.
Through the opening of this digital showroom, Hyundai Wia plans to get one step closer to automotive parts and machine tool customers worldwide.
A Hyundai Wia official said, “Sales in the online environment have become more important after the COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “Although it is difficult to meet global customers directly, we will strengthen our global sales capabilities through various approaches.”
