[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Sambutogeon announced on the 27th that it is promoting a hydropower project worth approximately 800 million dollars in Pakistan in a consortium with Lotte Construction and others.
This project is the Lowspot Hydropower Plant, which will construct three 156.7MW generators near the Indus River in the Kohistan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northern Pakistan. Upon completion, the total annual power generation will reach 1921GW.
It is a project to build a 470MW hydropower plant in Pakistan, which is currently experiencing severe power shortages, and to operate and manage it for 30 years. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is responsible for overall project management, investment, operation, and maintenance, while the Sambutogeon consortium is in charge of the plant's EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction).
The reason the Sambutogeon consortium is participating in this project is that among Korean construction companies, it has been active in Pakistan the longest and is familiar with the local construction environment. Additionally, it has the advantage of possessing abundant know-how in the dam and hydropower plant sectors.
Sambutogeon, the first company to receive a construction license in the Republic of Korea, entered Pakistan starting with the road construction project between Multan and Mian Channu in 1993, and has successfully completed numerous challenging projects such as the Lowari Tunnel, New Bong Hydropower Plant, and Golen Gol Hydropower Plant.
Considering its construction experience in Pakistan, Sambutogeon is leading the construction, and its stake is known to be 35%, worth approximately 320 billion won.
A company official stated, “By successfully completing the project based on the technology and know-how accumulated locally, we will once again instill an excellent corporate image of Korean companies such as Sambutogeon to the people of Pakistan, and furthermore, enhance the status of Korean construction companies.”
