"Catch the Year-End Home Party Crowd"... Retail Industry's Steak and Wine Battle On the 25th, a model is showcasing authentic American steak at Homeplus Gangseo Branch in Deungchon-dong, Seoul.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The distribution industry is launching events featuring steaks and wine, anticipating an increase in home party demand during Christmas and the year-end due to strengthened social distancing measures.


According to the distribution industry on the 25th, Emart will sell unique steak ingredients in its Christmas home party food event. This event introduces items such as ‘Heart Steak’, ‘Tomahawk Steak with a cooking timer’, and ‘Prime Short Ribs’ for customers who enjoy home steaks.


Homeplus is holding the 'American Steak Show' event, offering discounted steaks in collaboration with the U.S. Meat Export Federation until the 29th. They are selling chilled beef steaks such as Elbone, T-bone, and Tomahawk, transported by air from the U.S., at up to 20% off for My Homeplus membership members. For wine, to celebrate the year-end, they introduced a buyer-recommended theme and exclusively presented two Italian wines: ‘Mezzatiaprimitiivo Negroamaro’ and ‘Mezzatiaprimitiivo Susumaniello’.


Lotte Department Store has prepared a variety of unique wines. Notably, they offer limited quantities of 'Domaine Leroy Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 1998' and ‘Maison Leroy Pommard Rouge 2009’ from Leroy, the top winery in the Burgundy region of France. To mark the Year of the Black Tiger in 2022, they also sell the ‘Iminnyeon Tiger Wine Set’ featuring a tiger illustration.

Convenience stores are also introducing home party products. Emart24 has newly launched three home party meal kits: 'Donmahawk Steak', 'Pepperoni Mac & Cheese', and 'Butter Garlic Pasta'. These products are refrigerated and portioned for cooking within 15 to 20 minutes. Until the 25th, customers paying with affiliated cards can purchase four types of cakes made by Lucicato, a brand in department stores, at a 10,000 KRW discount.


An Emart24 representative said, “We have strengthened meal kit products suitable for home parties so that customers can enjoy the year-end atmosphere deliciously at home,” adding, “We plan to continue offering various food products so that customers can purchase home party items at convenience stores, which are nearby shopping channels.”
