[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 24th, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, responded to a question about the pardon of former President Park Geun-hye by saying, "What meaning would support or opposition have for a matter that has already been decided?"
After the 'Smart Strong Army, Selective Conscription Policy Announcement' held at the central party office in Yeouido, Seoul, Lee said in a Q&A session with reporters that he was asked whether he supports the pardon of former President Park, to which he gave this response.
Regarding the question about his statement, "Please remember that the court of history continues," Lee said, "The issue of pardon and reinstatement is a criminal justice matter," adding, "I meant that the judgment of the people and history will remain regardless of that."
When asked about the exclusion of former President Lee Myung-bak, he said, "Pardoning is the president's exclusive authority," and refrained from elaborating, saying, "Please refer to the statement for the specific exercise of the pardon power."
Earlier that day, through a statement, Lee said, "I understand President Moon Jae-in's anguish for national unity and respect the difficult decision." However, he also mentioned, "Even now, a sincere apology from former President Park to the people, who were victims of the state affairs manipulation, is necessary," and added, "Please remember that even if the court of reality closes, the court of history continues."
