Providing Expert Job Training to Support Senior Citizens' Retirement Life and Income Generation
Posco 1% Sharing Foundation Fully Supports Education and Operation Costs... Total 49.9 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) held the 2nd-year launch ceremony for its job creation support project for the senior community in the region on the 20th, cheering on retirees' vigorous "second act" in life.
The launch ceremony was attended by Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks; Jang Hyung-gon, Director of Gwangyang City Economic Welfare Bureau; Kim Soon-jung, Vice President of the Korea Senior Club Association; and Ban Young-seung, Director of Gwangyang Senior Club.
With the retirement of the baby boomer generation, who possess abundant experience and expertise, beginning, Gwangyang Steelworks is conducting a retiree talent development project called the "Senior Job Creation Talent Development Education" to support their active, healthy senior life and income generation.
In particular, this project is more meaningful as it provides expert-type job training that utilizes and develops the capabilities of senior retirees, rather than simple labor-type jobs. The response has been enthusiastic as participants can fully showcase their skills rather than just performing simple labor.
After the launch ceremony, a training and job linkage program will be conducted for 150 seniors aged 59 to 69 residing in Gwangyang, covering ▲board game instructors ▲child caregivers ▲senior smart professionals (smartphone instructors) ▲sewing specialists ▲baking specialists.
The education and operational costs for the "Senior Job Creation Talent Development Education" project will be supported using 49.9 million KRW from the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation designated donation fund, which is raised from 1% of POSCO employees' salaries.
On this day, Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "Through this project, I hope you discover new interests and build a solid foundation for your second life," adding, "Going forward, Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to support healthy communication among seniors in the region and strive to create conditions for their independence."
A graduate who participated in the first-year education said, "After completing the board game instructor course, I felt fulfillment and passion while caring for children, and I was able to pursue my dream of becoming a child care leader by obtaining six additional certificates," adding, "I deeply thank the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation, Gwangyang Steelworks, Gwangyang City, and all related parties of the Gwangyang Senior Club for giving me the opportunity to nurture a new dream."
Meanwhile, in January last year, Gwangyang Steelworks conducted the first session of the "Senior Job Creation Talent Development Education" project for 201 seniors in the region, supporting a total of 83 senior retirees' job participation through training in ▲Barista Level 2 ▲Cafe Menu Development ▲Garden Management ▲Well-being Food Expert ▲Board Game Instructor ▲Picture Book Instructor.
