[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 21st at the construction site near Jangwi Market (Jangwi Market No.1 Public Parking Lot) to begin the full-scale construction of the Jangwi Local Community-Oriented Culture and Arts Education Center.
This project is being promoted on the site at 36 Jangwol-ro 8-gil, Seongbuk-gu. This area mainly consists of low-rise, old houses, resulting in a lack of infrastructure supply compared to other regions, and residents have continuously raised demands for the expansion of cultural facilities.
The Jangwi Local Community-Oriented Culture and Arts Education Center is designed as a five-story building with a total floor area of 998㎡. From the design stage, input was gathered from local parents and residents to draft the layout of the space.
It will include activity spaces such as dance practice rooms and theater rehearsal rooms that guarantee the play rights of children and adolescents, as well as creative and educational spaces for local residents. Additionally, a cultural playground will be created where preschool children can experience various physical play and cultural activities. After the completion of the new construction, the function of the Jangwi Market public parking lot will be maintained as is.
A Seongbuk-gu official stated, “Near the construction site, there are many universities such as Korea National University of Arts, Dongduk Women’s University, Kyung Hee University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and many local artists reside in the area.” They added, “When it opens in the first half of 2023, it is expected to serve as a community-centered cultural and artistic hub space utilizing local resources and manpower.”
Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “The answer to changing the rigid atmosphere of the local community caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and healing the hearts of residents will ultimately be culture.” He added, “By expanding the insufficient cultural and artistic facilities in the Jangwi-dong area, we will do our best to improve the quality of life for local residents and create a cultural hub space where generations can enjoy together.”
The Seongbuk Smart Fashion Industry Center held an online opening ceremony on the 20th.
Due to COVID-19 prevention guidelines, the ceremony was conducted non-face-to-face and broadcast as a recorded program through Seongbuk-gu’s official YouTube channel, ‘SeongbukTV.’
The center’s opening was widely promoted online, and congratulatory messages were delivered from the Seongbuk-gu mayor, the president of the Small Enterprise and Market Service, the chairperson of the Seongbuk District Council, members of the National Assembly, and the president of the Sewing Association. There was also a session to share the center’s vision and business direction.
