[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] LG Energy Solution and the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 20th to develop advanced laser technology applicable in the battery field.
According to this MOU, they agreed to jointly research laser high-frequency technology to be used in the next-generation battery market. The research funding will be arranged through a matching fund system. Additionally, they plan to connect the University of Science and Technology (UST) Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials campus with LG IBT, a specialized battery education institution, to foster professional talent related to battery technology.
Park Sang-jin, President of KIMM, stated, "This agreement is meaningful as it represents active R&D cooperation aimed at solving future energy issues beyond battery-related technology," adding, "Along with collaborative research, we will also focus on nurturing excellent professional talent to secure technological superiority in the global battery market." Kim Myung-hwan, President of LG Energy Solution, said, "We will cooperate in various areas including joint research on core technologies, talent development, technical personnel exchange, and discovery of new research projects."
