Rapid Booster Vaccination Needed for Elderly and High-Risk Groups
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jongseon] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will operate temporary vaccination centers from the 17th to the 30th in eight myeon areas without designated medical institutions.
Gokseong-gun consists of 11 eup and myeon. Among them, only three eup and myeon (Gokseong-eup, Okgwa-myeon, Seokgok-myeon) have designated COVID-19 medical institutions, while the remaining myeon areas do not. Therefore, residents of the eight myeon areas had to endure the inconvenience of visiting nearby eup or myeon for vaccination.
In particular, the inconvenience was likely greater for elderly people with mobility difficulties who had to use public transportation.
Accordingly, Gokseong-gun decided to operate temporary vaccination centers in the eight myeon areas to quickly promote additional COVID-19 vaccinations for about 10,742 elderly people.
The target includes residents aged 60 or older living in the eight myeon areas of Ogok-myeon, Samgi-myeon, Moksadong-myeon, Jukgok-myeon, Godal-myeon, Ip-myeon, Gyeom-myeon, and Osan-myeon, who have completed their second dose and reached three months, as well as unvaccinated elderly aged 60 or older.
Since elderly people may have difficulty applying online, on-site registration is possible at the temporary vaccination centers within the medical center.
A county official urged residents, saying, "Concerns about breakthrough infections are increasing due to the spread of highly transmissible variants and the waning effectiveness of vaccinations over time. Since rapid additional vaccinations are necessary for the elderly and high-risk groups, we ask for active and proactive cooperation in the additional vaccinations."
Meanwhile, Gokseong-gun is putting administrative efforts into supporting charter buses for each village to assist elderly people with mobility difficulties in getting vaccinated. Additionally, persons in charge have been designated for each eup and myeon to focus on post-vaccination management.
