[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] The women's judo team affiliated with the Gochang County Office in Jeonbuk demonstrated their status as the strongest team at the '2021 Jeju Cup National Judo Competition' held from the 13th to the 16th.
According to Gochang County on the 20th, the team swept medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) in five individual weight categories and secured the runner-up position in the team event.
In the individual events, Park Eun-i in the -48kg category and Eom Dahyeon in the +78kg category each won gold medals.
Additionally, Ha Juhee in the -52kg category won a silver medal, while Seo Subin in the -57kg category and Jeon Yeji in the -63kg category each took home bronze medals.
The team also finished as runners-up in the team event, successfully concluding the competition.
This year, the team participated in a total of seven competitions, winning 22 individual medals (10 gold, 8 silver, 4 bronze) and achieving one championship and three runner-up finishes in four team events, showcasing their top-tier skills.
Previously, the county established the workplace sports judo team in 2009, which is currently operated under the leadership of Deputy County Governor Lee Jucheol as the head, with coach Hong Gimu and six athletes.
County Governor Yu Gisang said, “The women's judo team has been proud to continuously achieve good results in 2021, fueled by the passionate support of the county residents. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to training based on excellent teamwork and do our best to offer comfort to residents struggling due to COVID-19 with even improved skills next year.”
