[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hanwha Solutions Q CELLS announced on the 20th that a solar power plant equipped with its solar modules has recently started operation in the north-central region of France. The 55MW-scale power plant is located on a 75-hectare site in Giang, France, and uses modules certified under France's Carbon Footprint Scheme for low carbon emissions. This scheme calculates the total amount of carbon dioxide emitted during module production and provides incentives for products with lower carbon emissions. The minimum carbon emission standards have been strengthened starting this year.
The power plant was built and is operated by TotalEnergies France. The company expects it to produce up to 64GWh annually, sufficient to meet the electricity demand of approximately 71,000 people (based on domestic standards). It is projected to reduce 550,000 tons of carbon dioxide over the next 30 years. Hanwha Q CELLS supplied about 70% of the modules sold in France this year as low-carbon certified products. The European Union is preparing to introduce a Product Environmental Footprint scheme, which includes elements of France's Carbon Footprint Scheme, to promote low-carbon products.
