BMT to Participate in Semicon West and Japan... "Expecting Samsung Electronics to Benefit from US Semiconductor Investment"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] BMT, a specialized company in fittings, valves, and power equipment, announced on the 17th that it participated in the global semiconductor exhibitions ‘SEMICON West’ and ‘SEMICON Japan’.

SEMICON West, held in the United States from the 7th to the 9th (local time), is the largest semiconductor equipment and parts exhibition in North America. Following SEMICON West, BMT also participated in the large-scale Asian exhibition ‘SEMICON Japan,’ held in Japan from the 15th to the 17th.

A company representative stated, “Through active networking with global semiconductor companies, we shared industry conditions and product trends and showcased our technological capabilities. In particular, since our major client Samsung Electronics decided to build a second foundry plant in the U.S., local companies showed high interest.”

BMT supplies UHP (Ultra High Purity) fittings and valves to Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, LG Display, and others. Since being registered as a supplier of instrumentation fittings and valves to Samsung Electronics in 2003, the company has maintained transactions and received additional approval for UHP products in 2019.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics recently announced that it will build a new foundry plant worth $17 billion (approximately 20 trillion KRW) in Taylor City, Texas, USA. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of next year and operations are expected to start in the second half of 2024.

BMT stated, “We expect to benefit from the construction of the new Taylor City plant, which is Samsung Electronics’ largest investment in the U.S. to date. We also anticipate increased performance driven by the semiconductor boom and growth in applied industries such as LNG and hydrogen energy.” They added, “We will take a second leap forward by utilizing the new plant in Busan, which will begin construction this month.”

The new plant BMT is establishing in Jang-an, Busan, will have a site area of 47,900㎡ and a total floor area of 43,200㎡. The construction investment is approximately 34 billion KRW, and according to the guidelines for subsidies for attracting foreign companies, Busan City will provide 5 billion KRW in support. The plant is planned to be completed and relocated by March 2023, with new hires made before commencing operations.
